The money they raise is used to help provide clean water and related health services to people in African countries and in other developing nations. For those that want to contribute financially through Ryan's Well Foundation, the Mining for Water Challenge encourages:

• Exploration companies to donate one per cent of annual exploration drilling budgets.
• Mining companies to donate a percentage of the revenue earned from mining operations (e.g. $0.50 from every ounce of gold)
• Mining services companies to dedicate a percentage of fees raised or earned from the mining business.
